When using the proposed methodology for using crosswords in educational activities, successes in the intellectual development of students in the compensatory education class of a general education school were noted.

Work with crosswords was mainly carried out during lessons on the surrounding world using textbooks by A. Pleshakov. Of the 9 students of the newly formed 3rd grade of the KCO, only one knew how to solve children's crossword puzzles. The rest refused to answer because... this job seemed difficult.

Students were offered the following methodology for working with crossword puzzles.

Stage 1. Collective solving of 5-word crossword puzzles with short, specific questions.

Stage 2. Gradual increase in the number of words in crossword puzzles.

Stage 3. Including riddles in questions.

Stage 4. Individual crossword puzzle with group testing.

Stage 5. Individual solving for assessment.

Stage 6. Familiarity with the rules of composing a crossword puzzle. Collective creation of a crossword puzzle under the guidance of a teacher.

Stage 7. Compose your own crossword puzzle with given words.

Stage 8. Independently compiling a crossword puzzle on a specific topic based on the text of the textbook.

Stage 9. Using student crosswords in the classroom.

Stage 10. Getting to know various types crosswords.

Experience has shown that initial collective work with crossword puzzles relieved students’ self-doubt and helped them navigate the text of the textbook. Gradually, a desire appeared to learn about the rules for composing a crossword puzzle. By the end of 3rd grade, seven students had tried their hand at creating a 4-5 word crossword puzzle, having difficulty formulating questions for the selected words.

In the 4th grade, all students began to compose small crossword puzzles on the world around them and literary reading, which clearly indicates an increase in their intellectual level.

Scorpionfish (sea ruff)

Scorpion fish are a family of fish that live in the tropical waters of the World Ocean. They are characterized by the presence of poisonous spines located on the back and in the fins.

The scorpionfish family includes more than 380 species, the most famous of which is the lionfish or zebra fish. Most species are bottom-dwelling fish inhabiting shallow waters. However, there are scorpion fish that live at depths of over 2 km.
The body of fish of this family is dense and stocky.
The fins are massive with powerful spines.
The head is big.
The body is covered with random spots or stripes. The color is very varied from black and white to dark brown, and depends on the habitat, repeating the color of the bottom.
The scorpionfish reaches 40 centimeters in length and weighs one and a half kilograms.

All scorpionfish are fairly peaceful fish that use their poisonous spines only for self-defense. Noticing an approaching threat, they try to hide in a safe shelter as quickly as possible. Finding themselves squeezed from all sides, scorpionfish shoot rays in the direction of the attacker, trying to hit him with poison.

When hunting, they prefer to ambush small fish rather than chasing them. At night, some scorpion fish go out to prey, sneaking up on small fish resting at night. The diet consists of not only fish, but also small crustaceans and shrimp.

Some species of scorpionfish have unique property- they shed their old skin like a land snake. The dead scales slide off like a stocking. For example, the Black Sea scorpionfish can shed its skin up to 2 times a month.

Possesses exclusively delicious meat, but when cleaning it is necessary to take precautions, since its spines, as well as bone spines on the gill covers, contain poison, it causes very noticeable pain, and mucus that gets into the wound also causes inflammation, so it is dangerous to touch it.
