Prepare food. I used a lavash roll, it’s big and 1 piece was enough for me; if you take Armenian lavash, it’s better to take 2 pieces.

I decided to stuff the chicken with couscous and dry mushrooms, but the filling is optional; you can bake unstuffed chicken in pita bread. To prepare the chicken filling, pour boiling water over the couscous and leave to swell for 5-10 minutes.

Rinse the chicken under water and dry paper towel. The chicken can be marinated in any way and with any spices you prefer. I rubbed the chicken with salt, chicken seasoning, garlic passed through a press, and poured lemon juice over it.

After 5-10 minutes, the couscous will steam and the water will be completely absorbed into the cereal.

Transfer the couscous to a plate and fluff with a fork. Add salt and spices to taste and dry mushrooms to the steamed couscous (I previously washed the mushrooms with water).

Mix the couscous with mushrooms, salt, spices and the filling for stuffing the chicken is ready.

Stuff the chicken with couscous and mushrooms.

Prick the neck and abdomen with toothpicks.

Place the chicken on a sheet of pita bread. Wrap the pita bread over the chicken on both sides, and then completely wrap the carcass in the pita bread.

Place the chicken, well wrapped in pita bread, in a heat-resistant form (or on a baking sheet).

Cover the pan with chicken in pita bread on top with foil and place in a preheated oven.

Have you tried hot lavash rolls baked in the oven? These recipes are not as popular as classic snack cold rolls, and for good reason. The baked lavash roll turns out to be very interesting in taste and beautiful, with a ruddy, appetizing crust.

To be honest, I recently discovered this recipe myself and was pleasantly surprised by how it turned out in the end. I saw a recipe for a lavash roll in the oven somewhere on the Internet, and I liked the idea itself. But the filling in that version was not to my taste.

Therefore, when I got ready to cook, I improvised a little. And I got a lavash roll in the oven with chicken, egg and vegetables. I won't be modest, it turned out great! So now this oven-baked lavash stuffed with chicken is one of my family’s favorites.

My husband, for example, often asks me to cook it for work: for lunch, he just needs to heat the roll in the microwave, and he’s done. And for breakfast or dinner, a hot lavash roll in the oven is perfect. Well, was I convincing? Then I invite you to the kitchen - to cook!

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of thin pita bread;
  • 2 tbsp. l. mayonnaise;
  • 1 small onion;
  • 1 small carrot;
  • 100 g chicken fillet;
  • 1 egg;
  • salt, black pepper to taste;
  • vegetable oil;
  • 1 yolk.

How to cook a pita roll in the oven with chicken:

We will need thin pita bread, the approximate sheet size of which is 20 by 40 cm. Please note that it is best for pita bread rolls with chicken in the oven (as, indeed, for other pita bread rolls) to take rectangular pita bread, not round or oval. Lavash with rounded edges is more difficult to roll into a neat roll.

Grease a sheet of lavash with 1 tbsp. mayonnaise (preferably homemade).

Let's prepare the filling for the roll. Cut the onion into half rings and grate the carrots on a coarse grater. First sauté the onion half rings in vegetable oil over low heat, and then, when they become transparent, add the carrots to them and cook the whole place, stirring, over low heat for 5-7 minutes.

Boil the chicken fillet until tender, cut into small cubes. Boil the egg hard, cool, peel and also cut into cubes.

Combine the ingredients for the filling: onions with carrots, chicken fillet, egg. Add the remaining mayonnaise and mix. If necessary, add salt and pepper to taste.

Spread the filling evenly on a sheet of lavash.

Roll the pita bread into a tight roll.

And place the roll in a baking dish, greased with a small amount of vegetable oil. If your shape, like mine, is not too large, then you can cut the roll into 2-3 parts.

Beat the yolk and brush the top of the roll with it.

I wanted to cook something unusual and tasty from chicken, and besides, I had thin Armenian lavash on hand. I came across this recipe and didn’t even expect that it would turn out so delicious!

I've cooked chicken in pita bread twice already. It differs from traditional baked chicken in that it is cooked immediately with sauce. The ends of the pita bread are folded towards the center of the mold, this is similar to the formation open pie.

The first time I cooked chicken in pita bread, then I immediately sent the dish to bake in the oven for 1 hour. The second time, I already moistened the ends of the pita bread with water using a brush. The fact is that the pita bread begins to dry out greatly and as a result the top of the pie turns out to be burnt.

Therefore, I wet the pita bread well with water and do this procedure 5 times (as the top layer of the pita bread dries) while baking the chicken in the pita bread. The second time this should be done 10 minutes after the chicken has been put in the oven.

If you also pursue the goal of achieving beautiful appearance baked chicken in pita bread, then increase the baking time by another 10 minutes. Then it turns out that you will need to bake the chicken for 1 hour 10 minutes at a temperature of 180 degrees. If you don’t have time to look into the oven often or you missed this moment, you’ll just have to remove the burnt edge.

How to cook chicken in pita bread

To begin, cut the chicken into portions. I always remove the skin, which is what I advise you to do. To make it easier to eat, you can remove the bones from the chicken so that only the pulp remains.

Place the pieces in a deep bowl, then add ketchup and mayonnaise to the cup, sprinkle with spices and add salt.


Stir the meat until all pieces are in the sauce. The longer you marinate the meat, the softer it will be. If you are cooking on a quick fix, and you don’t have time to wait, then leave the chicken in the marinade for at least 10-20 minutes.


Dip thin Armenian lavash in milk. To do this, pour the milk into a bowl and place the pita bread in it for 1-2 minutes. Make sure that the sheets do not get too wet from the milk, otherwise they will tear.
