Tips for installing and configuring car alarms. Car alarm Pandora 3500 instruction manual

This system, for the first time in the world, is implemented on a 32-bit microcontroller with an ARM/Cortex core, which allowed developers to achieve outstanding results in processing streams of standard CAN buses of modern cars, calculations associated with the increased cryptographic strength of the dialog coding algorithm, and mathematical processing of signals from a highly sensitive three-coordinate accelerometer, which has built-in shock/tilt/vehicle motion sensors with unprecedentedly high protection against false alarms without compromising sensitivity. The system demonstrates the numerous advantages of our integral approach in ergonomics of use, speed of response to commands and events, correct operation in standard digital buses of cars, energy efficiency, range of dialogue communication, cryptographic strength of the updated version of dialogue coding, real noise immunity from radio interference of modern cities.

The system has 12 independent programmable channels, any of which can be assigned to any event, both the security and service system itself and events occurring in the vehicle’s CAN bus, eliminating the need to use a separate CAN module to connect additional devices from other manufacturers (GSM -modules, hood locks, door pins, immobilizers, satellite monitoring and search modules, GPS/Glonass trackers, etc.). The flexibility of system settings allows you to implement the highest anti-theft and service functionality available today on the market of automotive security and service systems from the world's leading manufacturers.

Of course, the built-in LIN port, which supports the protocols of some car brands, is of interest.

Pandora DXL 3500 has an expanded event memory (up to 100) with a non-volatile calendar and real-time clock module. The list of events now includes not only alarm events and disarming/arming events, but also records of triggering of preliminary sensor levels, engine start/stop events, records of engine start/stop problems, etc.

The circuitry of the base unit uses an integrated, highly efficient pulse power supply voltage converter from Linear (Japan), which made it possible to achieve an absolute record of energy efficiency (18 mA) with record high functionality (integrated full-featured CAN bus controller, constantly working built-in accelerometer, high range of dialog communication, constant monitoring of communication with the key fob, etc.).

The base unit of the system is equipped with a mini-USB connector that allows you to connect directly to a computer or Netbook for programming the system, updating software and reading the extended event log. When programming the base unit, power is supplied to it directly from the computer's USB port, which makes the process more convenient.

The system today supports more than 150 CAN protocols of various cars, covering all mass-produced cars sold in Russia, more than 50 of them in an expanded streaming mode, with analysis of a variety of parametric information. The support group is constantly working to read and check CAN protocols and advanced telemetry of all new products in the automotive industry and possible modifications of popular brands. You can update the software with the most modern set of CAN and LIN protocols at any time from the manufacturer’s website.

The processing of information from digital CAN and LIN buses, implemented on a single controller with basic functionality, clearly distinguishes the work of our deeply integrated processing methods from systems from other manufacturers with discrete CAN modules built into the base unit.

Stream processing, operating at the speed of the bus itself, has the ability to comprehensively analyze the situation, make requests and adjust the commands sent by the system to the bus in accordance with the situation. The result of the implementation of our streaming algorithms for working in the bus was a greater speed of response to commands, an expansion of possible, correctly executed commands, the ability to work on high-speed buses without limiting functionality, and an unrivaled range of service functions performed by CAN commands on premium cars.

Installation of alarm wiring

We lay the wiring

We install wiring

On the website for installation and instructions for use of Pandora DXL 3500, reviews contain the following recommendations: it is best to use soldering of the wiring, but twisting can also be used. The soldering method is more reliable and allows for better fastening of wires. To solder wiring, lead-tin solder is usually used.

It is imperative to take into account the fact that the material of the conductors must be identical. This will increase the service life of the wiring. In order to avoid the accumulation of condensation at the soldering points, they must be placed above the other wires. The alarm wiring should not be susceptible to temperature effects of vehicle components, friction, and should be placed hidden under the vehicle's upholstery elements. In the engine compartment of the car, the wiring is placed along special corrugations.

Wiring connection

Typical connection diagram

Next, we need to connect all the alarm elements and connect them to the main (base) unit. The connection of all elements must be carried out strictly in accordance with the instructions, in the order prescribed by the documentation attached to the alarm. All alarm elements must be properly and securely fastened and hidden.

How to install?

When installing a Pandora 3500 security alarm, you must comply with the following requirements:

  1. The electrical circuits of the security system are designed for D.C. with an operating voltage of 12 V. When used in networks with a different voltage, damage to the elements and failure of the system occurs. These cases are not covered by warranty.
  2. It is not recommended to replace the fuses in the harnesses with products of a different rating. It is strictly forbidden to replace fuse links with wire jumpers.
  3. Circuits controlled by built-in or additional relays must be protected by separate fuse links of the appropriate rating.
  4. The power and control wires must not have damage to the top insulating layer.
  5. The installation locations of the components must ensure that the units are protected from the ingress of process fluids or water.
  6. When installing a sensor for measuring the temperature of the power unit, it must be taken into account that heating the sensor to 190-200 ºС leads to fatal damage to the device. When using measurement results, one should take into account the possible error that arises due to the inertia of the measuring element and thermal losses in the sensor. If the user wants to increase the accuracy of the measurement, the sensor and the adjacent part of the wiring should be installed in a thermally insulating cover.
  7. The manufacturer considers the system units to be maintenance-free units. Removing covers is considered as interference in the design of the security system and is the reason for refusal of warranty service.

Placing blocks in the car

Installation procedure:

  1. Check the completeness of the delivery, analyze the instructions and decide on the location of the main signaling components.
  2. Proceed with the installation of the head module, which should be located in the vehicle interior. The unit is installed inside or near the instrument panel. It is allowed to place the unit in the center console. The installation location must ensure that the connecting wiring is shortened, since lengthening the standard harnesses leads to malfunctions of the alarm system.
  3. Secure the module using plastic ties or standard self-tapping screws. The manufacturer allows the unit to be mounted on double-sided adhesive tape. Since the adhesive layer of the tape is subject to aging (especially due to temperature changes), additional fastening with a screed is recommended. Reliable fixation of the module is necessary to ensure the operation of the built-in sensor that responds to impacts, vehicle movement or changes in the angle of inclination.
  4. Attach the transceiver module. A well-chosen location for installing the device allows you to ensure the range of two-way communication declared by the manufacturer. It is recommended to install the device on the top of the windshield, placing the antenna antenna horizontally. The minimum distance between the body and metal parts of the body should not be less than 20 mm. In this case, the gap between the side edges of the antenna antenna and the body should be 200 mm or more.
  5. Route the antenna signal wire under the ceiling and pillar trims. The cable should run at the minimum possible distance from the body, which acts as a protective screen against radio interference. The wire should not have sharp bends or be pressed by plastic sheathing. If the glass is equipped with a standard electric heating system or is coated with metallized films, then the communication distance is reduced several times.
  6. Install a status diode capable of operating in three color modes. According to the manual, the diode should be visible both from the driver's seat and through the glass. The indicator can be placed in plastic interior elements by drilling a mounting hole with a diameter of 5 mm. To install it in the hole, the diode is removed from the factory housing. For additional fixation, the diode can be installed with rubber glue or sealant.
  7. Place the service mode activation button in the planned location. The key is located hidden, but the user must have unhindered access to it, since setting parameters or emergency shutdown of the Pandora 3500 complex is performed by the button and by diode signals.
  8. Install a sensor designed to measure the air temperature in the cabin. The installation point should not be located in an area deprived of circulation air masses. It is not recommended to install the sensor in places exposed to direct sunlight, as well as near air ducts and deflectors of the microclimate system. If the car is equipped with a climate control system, you can try placing the sensor in the air duct for the standard sensor. In this case, the air used to measure the temperature is supplied by a miniature fan.
  9. Install a power unit temperature sensor in the engine compartment. It is located on the top of the engine or the cylinder head, and is attached with a nut to the standard studs. It is allowed to use the adapter metal plate included in the delivery kit for installation. The plate can be attached to the body; the sensor should be located as close as possible to the engine or metal elements of the cooling system (radiator, thermostat, pump). It is prohibited to install the sensor near the exhaust system, since the device is not designed to operate in high temperature environments.
  10. Install the relay module included in the delivery kit. The device is mounted in the engine compartment using ties, self-tapping screws or double-sided adhesive tape. When using tape, additional fixation of the device with a screw or tie is required, since the adhesive layer quickly ages in temperature conditions engine compartment.
  11. The user can install an iButton contact pad designed to disable the system with a special code key. The contactor is mounted in the driver's seat area on metal (body, additional brackets or frames) or plastic trim elements. The device can also be used in auxiliary immobilizer mode.

The siren is installed in the engine compartment and is positioned with the horn facing down. Fastening is carried out with standard self-tapping screws to metal body surfaces. If a stand-alone device is intended to be used, it is connected directly to battery. The wires must be equipped with a 3 A fuse insert located in close proximity to the battery terminal.

Installation of connecting wiring

The main alarm module is equipped with a number of connectors located on the front:

  • transceiver module block (X2);
  • plug for the service button harness (X4);
  • connection point for the temperature sensor wiring in the engine compartment (X5);
  • connector for installing the interior temperature sensor wire (X6);
  • block for installing the status diode wire (X7);
  • connection point for an additional sensor (X8);
  • main system connector (X9);
  • block for connecting expansion modules (X10);
  • plug for supplying the wiring harness from the relay module (X11).

Location of connectors on the main unit

On the back of the Pandora DXL 3500 alarm unit there is an X1 connector equipped with a mini-USB plug, used for programming.

Step by step wiring connection:

  1. Connect the power supply to the external siren to the sixth contact in block X9. The contact provides a positive pulse with a voltage of 12 V at the moment the alarm mode is activated. The contact element base allows the passage of current with a force of 3 A. If the user plans to use a high-power siren or use a parallel installation of two sirens, then the connection is made through a relay. Current switching is performed through a contact group.
  2. The Pandora 3500 operating instructions provide three options for connecting the light signaling system. By default, control is set via the digital CAN bus available on modern cars. It is also possible to activate the hazard warning button or connect directly to the turn signal lamps. If you intend to connect to the emergency gang control button, then you need to use contact 14 from the X10 block, to which the CH6 timer channel is connected. When connecting lamps directly, switched currents exceed permissible value, therefore two additional relay elements must be used.
  3. Connect the main unit to the limit switch circuits located in the body door locks. By default, control is set using the on-board CAN bus. A number of cars do not allow connection according to this scheme due to design limitations. In this case, the limit switches are connected directly to the block; for this, the third contact from the X10 plug is used. When installing a separate interior light control controller on a vehicle or using separate connections for door switches, it is possible to use the output wire of the lighting system to control the alarm. If the vehicle is equipped with a delay function for switching off the interior lighting, it is necessary to program a delay for arming the limit switches.
  4. Connect the hood and trunk limit switches. When using the CAN bus, control is carried out automatically, no connection is required. In other cases, the limit switches are connected to the analog inputs on the block, which are pin two (for the hood) and pin four (for the trunk). Both contacts are located in the X10 block and provide the ability to select the polarity of the limit switch. For connection, you can use standard terminations (coming from the factory) or use the products supplied in the kit.
  5. Connect engine operation sensors. By default, the settings are set to control via a digital bus; connecting signal wires is not required. If this is not possible, the analog inputs must be used. The ninth contact in the X10 block is intended for connecting the signal wire from the oil pressure sensors or from the battery charge indicator. Polling polarity programmable, default setting negative meaning. If the input is not planned to be used, the wire is twisted and insulated. The second input is made through pin 10 in the same block. The signal circuit of the tachometer or generator is used for connection.
  6. Check the operation of the input according to the indication on the key fob display - when the engine is operating, an icon in the form of a working fan impeller should be displayed. The input is equipped with a high-speed controller capable of recognizing the moment the engine starts during automatic starting. If the wire is not connected, then it must be bundled and insulated.
  7. To connect sensors for the neutral or parking position of the gearbox lever or the parking brake limit switch, contact 12, located in block X10, is used. The condition of the sensors is checked before starting the engine remotely. By default, the devices have negative polarity, which can be changed by programming. If there is no connection, the wire is removed and fixed in a wound state.
  8. If necessary, you can connect a brake pedal limit switch, which will allow you to organize another security zone. For this purpose, analog input 11 is used in the block of the main harness X10. When you press the brake pedal, the brake signal limit switch is activated and a positive 12 V voltage pulse is supplied to the system unit, which triggers the alarm mode. The manufacturer does not recommend ignoring this connection.
  9. Ensure the operation of the relay module, which is located near the ignition switch and covered by the steering column trim. When connecting, it should be taken into account that the wires are intended for transmitting and switching high currents, therefore the insertion must provide reliable operation electrical circuit. The module is connected to a separate X11 connector on the main unit. After electrical installation work, the module is securely fixed with electrical tape or plastic ties (through special mounting holes).
  10. Connect the temperature sensor harnesses in accordance with the diagram. If there is a connection error (the X5 and X6 blocks are mixed up), the addressing of the sensors must be changed, after which the devices will display the correct data. After connecting the sensors, their activation is required, which is performed by turning on and off the power to the main unit of the security complex. Addressing switching is carried out without turning off the power.
  11. Connect the connector of the iButton device to read keys. The device operates in parallel with the service button, which allows you to use the key to program the system and perform an emergency disabling of the security mode (if the key fob or tag is lost or damaged).
  12. Configure the system. If the car is equipped with a CAN bus, then you need to configure the security system adapter for correct operation.

System programming

Programming Pandora 3500 is done manually or using a computer.

Manual setting

The manual programming menu has several tabs:

  • general settings (tab I);
  • settings for autostart and related systems that support engine operation without a key in the ignition switch (tab II);
  • setting the operating parameters of timer channels (tab III);
  • operating parameters of the CAN bus adapter (tab IV).

Entering the settings menu is done when the security mode is disabled as follows:

  1. Activate the ignition and enter the first digit of the code by pressing the service button. The correctness of the number entered is confirmed by a red flash of the indicator diode. The factory default value is 1111.
  2. The remaining numbers are entered similarly. Each value must be confirmed by a flash of the diode. After entering the fourth digit, the diode will flash red and green flashes, which indicate the system is ready to configure parameters. If there is an error in reading or entering a code or number, the system gives a long red flash with the diode. Re-entry is possible no earlier than after 5 seconds.
  3. Enter the required settings tab by clicking on the owner call button located on the antenna module.

To start setting up the CAN bus you will need:

  1. Enter the setup mode using the method described above.
  2. Press the owner call button three times. Entering the fourth tab is confirmed by the siren and emergency lights sounding four times.
  3. When entering vehicle parameters, you are required to specify a four-digit identification code. Each vehicle, equipped with a CAN bus, has its own unique code, which matches the operating mode of the adapter and the bus. The first two digits of the code indicate the manufacturer, the next two indicate the model. To enter the first digit of the manufacturer's code, you need to press the Valet button the number of times corresponding to the digit. Each press causes a short orange flash of the LED. The pause between presses should not exceed 1 second. After entering the first number, the diode will give a single short flash in red.
  4. By analogy, enter the three remaining digits of the code. After this, programming is considered completed, the system will automatically return to the starting state of tab IV. The control diode will blink green, indicating system activity via the digital bus.

The programming status can be monitored using the information available on the key fob screen. The status is indicated by a clock field that indicates the programming level and sublevel value. The system status icon indicates the parameter value - enabled (lock closed) or disabled (lock open).

Computer setup

Setup using a personal computer is faster. To do this you will need a computer with an operating system. Windows system XP, as well as a pre-installed proprietary DXL Loader configuration program and a USB-miniUSB patch cord. The advantage of this setup is the ability to work with the main unit installed on or removed from the car. The removed unit is powered via a USB cable.

The third configuration option is the method of making changes through a computer and a radio module that replaces the cord. In this case, programming the removed unit requires power supply.

User manual

Brief list of functions and control methods:

  3. To unlock the trunk lock, press button 3 for a second. In this case, the trunk circuit is excluded from the security zone and the shock sensor is temporarily deactivated. After closing the trunk, security is restored automatically.
  4. If the key fob is lost or broken, the system can be turned off using a special code, which is printed on the card included in the delivery set.
  5. Simultaneous pressing of buttons 1 and 3 activates the delayed arming mode. Security is turned on automatically after 30 seconds.
  6. It is possible to operate the system in automatic arming mode, which is activated 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off, the door is opened and closed. A warning message flashes on the key fob screen, reminding the owner of the active mode.
  7. To search for a car in a parking lot, briefly press button 1. The car will emit five flashes and a short sound signal.
  8. The panic mode is turned on by pressing buttons 1 and 2 together. At the same time, the siren starts sounding and the emergency lights flash. Switching off is done by pressing button 1 or 2.

Key fob programming

Before you start using the main key fob, you must turn it on. The manufacturer supplies the remote control with a battery installed inside the battery compartment. The key fob is turned on by pressing button 1 for three seconds. When loading, a melody will be played and the indicators on the display will turn on. Pressing it again turns off the remote control.

The device has two diodes that help in working with the system:

  1. Green Send indicator, responsible for displaying communication in the notification channel. In normal mode, the diode produces single short flashes.
  2. The red Alarm indicator flashes when alerts are received and there is no connection with the vehicle.

Identification of buttons on the main key fob

The use of additional key fobs is possible after programming them:

  1. Turn on the remote control (for a device with a display).
  2. Enter programming mode by entering the secret code (default value is 1111).
  3. After giving the green and red signal, press the service button again. The siren will sound.
  4. Press and hold three buttons on the key fob until a beep sounds on the device with a display and until the indicator turns off on the remote control without a display.
  5. Release the buttons. The system will give one signal, the key fob will give two.
  6. Write down the next keychain. The recording interval is no more than 20 seconds.
  7. Remember to remember old communicators, as they are erased and encryption keys are changed.

When recording Pandora 3500 key fobs, you should pay attention to the compliance of the firmware. There have been cases where it was not possible to register remote controls on an updated 3500i system with firmware 8.55. Rolling back the firmware version to generation 5.54 helped.

Setting up autorun

When using autostart on cars equipped with a manual transmission without a standard neutral position sensor, software installation of neutral is required. The box type is pre-set in the alarm settings. The input available in the main unit connector is used for the parking brake limit switch.

Setting the software neutral

Procedure for enabling software neutral:

  1. After stopping the vehicle, do not turn off the engine. Raise the parking brake lever to the working position, and then press the alarm button for three seconds. After this, the siren should sound, signaling the activation of systems that support engine operation. When you press the brake pedal or lower the lever, the program neutral mode is deactivated. Depending on the connection of the ignition relay, the mode is reactivated by turning the ignition system on and off.
  2. Turn the key in the lock and remove it from the hole. After this, the countdown begins until the engine stops. The user has one minute to leave the salon and turn on the security mode. The engine will then stop for 3 seconds.

It is possible to configure a different method for turning on the software neutral. The technique involves activating the mode automatically when the parking brake lever is lifted while the power unit is running.

Autostart from key fob

To remotely start with a key fob you need:

  1. Press button 1 and hold it for three seconds. Wait for the key fob to send three short signals.
  2. Reception of the command will be confirmed by a sound signal, the shock sensor will turn off and the flashing indicator of the running engine (fan) will be activated.
  3. The starter will rotate the shaft and the engine will start. The fan icon on the key fob will turn on and a sound signal will sound, signaling the start of the power unit. The duration of operation depends on the settings and is limited by time or temperature.
  4. An early stop is performed by pressing and holding button 2 on the remote control. After stopping, the icon will go out and the corresponding melody will sound.
