Why do children need summer holidays? Why are vacations needed?

For children, summer is a long-awaited holiday when there is no strict schedule, no need to get up early, and prepare for lessons in the evenings. Three months of free life, walks in the fresh air, meetings with friends, trips and travel.

Many parents understand the importance of proper rest for children overloaded with all sorts of activities. But they still fear that the child will relax too much and forget what he knew. And since children have a lot of free time during the holidays, the mother is tempted to use it usefully and on purpose.

Is it worth studying during the holidays, improving subjects, and what is the most important task? summer holiday for a child, says psychologist Yulia Guseva.

Holidays

Holidays! A cherished word for all schoolchildren and most parents. Indeed, children are looking forward to the summer holidays just as their parents, and before that their grandparents, once looked forward to them. But what about the parents?

Yes, on the one hand, there is joy: you no longer need to study homework with your child in the evenings, you don’t need to take him to extra classes. On the other hand, won’t he forget everything he knew in three months? What will he do? Parents often think that if their child is not properly occupied, he will play all day long. computer games or watch movies. How to be? Send to camp? But parents are worried that children there spend a lot of time playing with their phones, and they don’t want to send them to camp without a phone at all (that is, without communication... Maybe they should sign up for a course) foreign language or send me to a language camp?

Why do we need vacations at all? The main function of a vacation or vacation is to restore the body from the stress that has accumulated over the entire school or working year. The school year is a time when a child has many responsibilities that cannot be ignored. Every day you need to go to school, study lessons and live according to the schedule. This is a stressful situation for the body.

Let's do a little experiment, dear parents. Let's try to “experience” the holidays for ourselves. Imagine that starting tomorrow you have a vacation. Now close your eyes and think about what you want to do. When I proposed such an experiment to adults, I received different answers. Some wanted to read, some wanted to clear out the rubble in their closets, some wanted to take up a hobby. That is, adults wanted to do something that they didn’t have time to do at normal times, something they “didn’t get around to doing.” They wanted to satisfy those needs that are not fully satisfied outside of vacation. This is one moment. And the adults also wanted a couple of days of respite. It’s not that they wanted to lie on the couch all day, but it was important to simply adjust to rest.

What about the children? Do children need to satisfy their dissatisfaction during school year needs? Do they need a break? Yes. All this is very necessary and important for children. And you don’t have to worry that this respite will last for three months. I will share my experience. When the holidays began, I did not offer anything to my son, who graduated from first grade. No business, no fun. For two days he ran around the street: riding a bicycle, playing football, volleyball, archery and doing something else that I don’t know about. He didn't touch the books. He ate, walked and slept. On the third day, having had enough fun, my son began reading and drawing, on the fourth or fifth day he sat down at the piano, and a couple of days later he picked up xylophone sticks. At the same time, he continued to walk a lot. So many.

In junior school age It is very important for children to play, communicate with parents and other children; in middle and older children the need to communicate with peers comes to the fore. It is these needs, unfortunately, that are often not met during the school year. And unmet needs lead to tension and stress. It turns out that in order not to create an even more stressful situation for the child during the holidays, we must provide him with the opportunity to play and communicate with other children.

What about classes? Is it worth it to study during the holidays? It happens that during the holidays parents try to solve the problems that have accumulated over the year. For example, improve your math (physics, English). A tutor comes to the house and... goodbye free life. It would seem that the child studies for only an hour a day, but the lessons are assigned for two hours. The rest of the time is rest. But then stress sets in again. Because again life is on a schedule, again responsibilities (lessons). And then the tension does not go away during the holidays, it remains, and an unrested child enters the new school year...

It is important to ensure maximum leisure child: bicycle, roller skates, volleyball, football, gorodki, etc. During the school year, stress has accumulated due to, among other things, the child’s low mobility. Alas, children do not walk enough and move little. Let's correct this situation this summer. Go hiking with your children, just go to the forest to pick mushrooms or berries, ride a bike, or go boating down the river. In summer you can learn many things: pitch a tent, light a fire, cook over a fire, row with oars, make jam, grow vegetables in the garden and much more. And the most important thing is that this is full communication between parents and children.

But how to study? I would suggest taking a closer look at the child's needs and thinking about what the child's needs were not met during the school year and how they can be usefully met. Let me give you an example. For a year, a first-grader wanted to take up drawing. Unfortunately, such an opportunity was not possible due to a busy schedule. However, on the first day of the holidays, his mother gave him a very good book- a drawing tutorial. The book contained lessons that explained step by step how to draw. The child began to draw with pleasure and read the explanations. Useful activity? Very! Spatial concepts develop, the child studies proportions, perspective, thinks about the properties of objects, and much, much more.

Try to make sure your child has the opportunity to do the activities they want to do during the school year! This can be modeling, designing, sawing, knitting, etc. Someone will make a birdhouse, and someone will learn how to bake a pie. But in order to bake a pie, a junior high school student must first read the recipe (that’s what reading is all about), measure out everything necessary ingredients(mathematics), follow the process. What about the birdhouse? You need to read the instructions, measure and calculate everything. Why not development?

Let's get back to classes. If you are still planning to study mathematics with your child, I ask you to first watch (or remember) the new cartoon that was released last year - “The Little Prince”. When I watched this cartoon, and it was just during the winter holidays, I was struck by the schedule that my mother made for her daughter during the holidays. A schedule in which games with a friend were allocated half an hour a week and only from next year. And the board with the chips still scares me when I remember it. Watch this cartoon. It's not just about the little prince. It's about our whole life. About communication and relationships, about joy and sadness, about the fullness of life and its emptiness, about achievements and motivation.

It was about junior schoolchildren. What about high school students? They are not very ready to go hiking with their parents, much less relax at the dacha with their grandmother. For them, the main thing is communication with peers. It's time for camp. And yes, business can be combined with business. An international language camp, for example, will appeal to many teenagers. Sports camps are good for those who like to relax. Actually, it’s not worth listing. A teenager can choose his own vacation spot from those offered to him by his parents.

Vacations are very important. So is vacation. It’s just that many adults don’t know how to fully rest. Start with yourself. Enjoy your vacation to the fullest. By learning to rest yourself, you will teach your children to rest. Have a nice holiday!

Based on materials:

WHY ARE THERE HOLIDAYS???

Teachers often assign homework during the holidays, even though they shouldn't. Sometimes teachers simply recommend that some parents work with their child on an additional specific topic that the child missed due to illness or simply did not understand. Therefore, parents have to sit down with the textbooks themselves, or hire a tutor for their child.

Of course, it is very difficult for an individual parent to resist the temptation to do something useful with their child during the holidays, especially if the child really has difficulties in some subject. After all, the next quarter will come very soon, when there will definitely be no time to study the missed material. Of course, this doesn’t happen in an ideal school. Children should not be given any lessons during the holidays. We do not live in an ideal world, but, nevertheless, we can listen to the opinions of experts.

It is known that child psychologists recommend not studying during the holidays, they say and write that children need proper rest, so that the change of cycles “study - vacation” can be established; in order to avoid overload in children, they should not be overloaded with mathematics, writing and other subjects yet and on holidays. Books, of course, can and should be read, but there are a big difference between extracurricular reading according to a specific list and reading for pleasure.

Many parents feel sorry for their children and want them to rest. What to do? Putting aside textbooks along with the last lesson or, after all, trying to “pull up your tails”? Try following a few simple tips:

1. As early as possible, try to talk with the teacher about what tasks he can recommend specifically for your child, to understand and evaluate the amount of work.

2. Determine together with the teacher what is really vital to do during the holidays. Situations are different. For example, a child was sick a lot and completely missed the topic of what units, tens and hundreds are. You may have to figure this out on your own, although there is no harm in asking the teacher if he can explain to him the basics of what was missed a couple of times a week, after school. Still, this should be done by a professional, not parents.

3. If you see that the expected assignments for the holidays consist mainly of repeating the material covered, reinforcing what was covered in class, or generally additional tasks, then try to negotiate with the teacher to shorten this list. You need to minimize the amount of what you have to do.

4. It is better to divide all the tasks that still need to be completed into small parts and try not to do it every day. Completely free weekends from classes. Children really need rest and this is no joke! Create a lesson plan with your child. If there are too many lessons and it is not possible to study only 2-3 times a week, you can, for example, devote Monday, Wednesday and Friday to mathematics, and Tuesday and Thursday to Russian.

5. Be sure to discuss with your child how it will be more comfortable for him - do his homework first, and then relax for the rest of the day, or vice versa, play and have fun in the morning, and sit down and study in the afternoon. A child needs choice, but the choice is limited. Yes, lessons must be done, but he can choose when and how.

6. If possible, find a museum or exhibition on the topic the child is studying, a performance based on the book they are assigned to read, a workshop, lecture, or other entertainment to form positive associations in the child with the subject, such as math or reading. Children always like it when, after reading a book, they have the opportunity to watch a play, musical or cartoon. After repeating the topic about electricity, you can watch a demonstration of experiments in the museum, and if you had to study history, you can play board game, visit a museum or do tasks in a book with stickers and puzzles on the topic. Of course, parents will have to find a museum, buy tickets to a show, buy a game or a book, but the stress from studying during the holidays will be much less.

Of course, this approach takes time, but without such preparatory work, you will have to spend many times more energy and nerves on completing homework.

It is very difficult to find a student who loves school because of the activities. Many people love it precisely because at school they can communicate with classmates, with older friends, gain experience in sports activities, and, of course, they love school precisely for the holidays. When do they start autumn vacation at school is a question that interests not only schoolchildren, but also their parents. I already want to sit at home, take a break from this school tinsel, even if the holidays only last one week.

Vacation Features

Today, any educational institution in the Russian Federation can choose the best vacation option for itself; most often they fall on the last week of October and the first week of November. Vacations last 9 days, including weekends. This is quite enough to take a break from everyday academic life, miss friends and classmates, and also want to return to school.

This year, the autumn holidays are already over, children are going back to school with renewed vigor, eager to get an education and to please not only their parents, but also their teachers. It is also worth noting that in some countries there are certain reliefs for first-graders; children can go on additional holidays in order to quickly adapt to acquiring new knowledge.

Features of vacations for schoolchildren

In all countries, holidays are created based on the following aspects:

  • The system of organizing something educational institution. Each school may have its own rules of study, by semester or by quarter.
  • Children's age. First-graders are supposed to have additional holidays and days off.
  • Depending on public holidays, weather conditions.

The directorate today has the right to independently decide at what time children need to go on vacation, how long it will last and when. According to statistics, educational process lasts 271 days, of which 90 days must be allocated for rest and restoration of mental activity of each child, regardless of primary classes or graduations.

Additional information about holidays

We should not forget that a cold and unpleasant winter with severe frosts awaits us, which creates additional holidays for children. In addition to the fall and winter holidays, unscheduled days off may occur during this time. It’s difficult to call them vacations, because, as a rule, such weekends take 3-4 days until optimal weather for education returns.

For first-graders, the reason for unscheduled holidays may be frosts of -20 degrees, high school closes at -22, and for high schools the indicator should be -25 degrees. Holidays for schoolchildren can be not only autumn, winter, spring and summer, but also off-season.

Most often, such holidays are observed in early December, when, after a pleasant autumn, severe and unbearable frosts begin. Children are subject to quarantine, which does not have a clear start and end schedule. Everything depends on weather conditions.

Why does a child need a vacation?

Regardless of age, a child at school receives a fairly large brain load, and weekends are not always spent on rest. Often modern education completely fills the children's weekends with training, not giving them time to rest quietly, change mental work to physical work, or go out with friends. That is why parents from time to time must, if necessary, create a one-day weekend or a week-long quarantine for their baby, if the need arises.

Psychologists say that for schoolchildren, rest plays no less a role than learning. Due to his age, a child should try to develop comprehensively, learn something new for himself, which is not part of the scope of education. If your child also needs such breaks between learning and school, allow him to do this without waiting for short planned holidays. Childhood is one thing, and you can gain new knowledge and skills not only from school curriculum, but also from independent development, which children do in their free time from school.
